Praetorian Cybersecurity Expert Joins Industry Leaders to Extend IoT Security Maturity Model for Trustworthiness

AUSTIN, Texas – Oct 2, 2018 – Matt Eble, Internet of Things (IoT) Practice Director at Praetorian, a leading information security assessment and advisory services firm, has joined a team of industry leaders at the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) to develop a Security Maturity Model (SMM), extending the group’s IoT model for trustworthiness.

The Industrial Internet Consortium is the world’s leading membership program transforming business and society by accelerating the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The IIC delivers a trustworthy IIoT in which the world’s systems and devices are securely connected and controlled to deliver transformational outcomes.

The model will be published in IIC’s ninth edition of the Journal of Innovation. Eble is coauthor of the article “Extending the IIC IoT Security Maturity Model to Trustworthiness,” detailing how to approach safety, security, reliability, resilience and privacy trustworthiness when making an IoT security investment.

“Similar to how the NIST Cyber Security Framework has provided a path for risk-informed decisions at the enterprise level, the SMM provides a framework for organizations to make rational decisions about securing IoT ecosystems,” Eble said. “It helps the organization to focus on those changes that will really move the needle, without wasting time and money on controls of marginal value.”

Praetorian joined the IIC in 2017 to advance industry protocols and best practices at multiple levels of the entire IoT ecosystem. Praetorian’s contributions to SMM are a follow up to IIC’s IoT Security Framework, which was released in late 2016.

In addition to Praetorian, the SMM Writer’s Group includes some of the foremost security innovators from Microsoft, Fujitsu, Entrust Datacard, and Kaspersky Lab.

The IIC will meet in Beijing this October where they will plan to submit Security Maturity Model for final approval.
