Steve Frank is a cybersecurity and intelligence executive with CISO experience in both the healthcare and defense sectors. Steve blends technical and strategic leadership to enable best-in-class global security programs.
Steve served for fifteen years in the U.S. Intelligence Community, where he focused on providing innovative solutions for cyber incident detection, prevention, remediation and response. Steve championed efforts to enable proactive risk management through adversarial testing, risk visualization, and executive engagement. Steve served as the Chief of Cyber Defense and then ultimately as the Deputy CISO for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He was recognized with the prestigious Tradecraft Excellence award for his work advancing cybersecurity operations.
After federal service, Steve joined the healthcare sector to continue his passion for helping protect lives. He works as the Deputy CISO for one of America’s leading health care providers and not-for-profit health plans. He also serves as the Executive Director for a Cyber Risk Defense fusion center which operates around-the-clock to protect the complex digital ecosystem enabling care delivery.
Steve holds a Master of Science (M.S.) in Information Security Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Applied Networking and Systems Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Steve was a founding member and president of RIT’s Security Practices and Research Student Association (now RITSEC) where he helped organize student learning events and cyber wargame competitions. He has continued collaborating with RIT by serving on the National Council for the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (GCCIS). He is a Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP).
